Stability & Bug Fixes

yesterday

A small maintenance update with crash and bug fixes.

Stability

  • Fixed a GPU crash on characters with facial animation and other morphs.
  • Fixed a GPU crash when reflection probes were baked with the Quality filter.
  • Fixed crashes involving 3D skyboxes, including when the world they belong to is unloaded.
  • Fixed a crash when UI elements were added or removed while the UI was updating.
  • Fixed a crash from animations using out-of-range parameters.
  • Fixed several rare rendering crashes involving missing textures, complex UI gradients and unloaded materials.
  • An error in a game's rendering code is now reported instead of crashing the game.
  • Crash reports now include much more detail about GPU and video memory crashes, which will help us track down the ones that are left.

Graphics

  • Fixed screen-space shadows turning black where they meet the skybox.
  • Fixed depth of field producing stray black or white pixels.
  • Fixed object highlight outlines on the back faces of models.
  • Fixed world text jittering on moving objects.
  • Fixed 3D skyboxes sometimes missing parts of their scenery.
  • Fixed visual glitches when views use different anti-aliasing settings.
  • Laptops and other integrated GPUs are now detected more reliably, so default quality settings suit them better.
  • You'll now get a warning when a game uses more video memory than your GPU has available.

Gameplay

  • Gibs from broken props now keep the prop's material and surface type.
  • Explosions now check for cover correctly, and their damage is credited to the weapon or prop that caused it.
  • Fixed some physics joints ending up misaligned or throwing errors.
  • Scraping sounds now only play for physics objects that are moving.
  • Fixed sound areas not following the object they're attached to.

Multiplayer

  • When joining a server fails, you're now told why instead of it silently giving up.

Loading Games

  • Game code now comes from a new service that builds it for the exact version of s&box you're running.

Input

  • Fixed the mouse cursor not locking back into the game after opening a window or panel.

Linux

  • Fixed launching multiplayer and creating or joining lobbies from the editor.
  • IDs generated on Linux now match Windows, fixing mismatches when Linux and Windows players share content.
  • Fixed problems with file paths that differ only in upper and lower case.

Other

  • Updated the Steam client libraries.
  • Standalone games no longer change your s&box install location setting.

For Creators

  • Games must now compile on our servers before they can be published, and you'll see the compiler errors if they don't.
  • Fixed tinting on aggregate meshes in Hammer.
  • Fixed a Hammer crash when a viewport started rendering while another render was still in progress.
  • Fixed crashes when loading some maps and when merging very large meshes.
  • Fixed shader compiler crashes on unterminated sections, errors at the end of a file and long error messages.
  • Projects with more than 65,535 linked files now work.
  • Fixed SVG textures breaking when they're hot-reloaded.
