Hi everyone,
Bodycam v0.9 releases on Friday, November 13.
Friday the 13th felt like the right day to bring the zombies back.
0.9 is a smaller, in-between update. A big part of the team is still focused on the larger, long-term projects coming to Bodycam, and in the meantime we wanted to bring you some fresh content. Zombies get the spotlight this time, but multiplayer isn't left out, with a reworked Public Pool and the arrival of the anti-cheat.
A Better Zombies Experience
New: Zombie Trenches
Let's start with the one you probably didn't see coming. Zombie Trenches is a brand new game mode built on the Trenches map, and we can't wait for you to try it. More on that one soon.
Village and Asylum Are Back
Both maps are back in Zombies. We went back over them to fix a lot of what you reported, especially around spawns and how zombies behave, and gave them a proper polish pass.
Weapon Boxes
Weapon boxes now drop weapons with random attachments, using the same attachment system as your loadout, so what you pull from a box changes a lot more from one run to the next.
Public Pool, Reworked
Public Pool has been the least played map since Locked & Loaded, and we wanted to change that. We gave it a big visual rework to bring it up to the quality we're aiming for across Bodycam, and we made some improvements to its layout along the way. Give it another shot.
Anti-Cheat
Easy Anti-Cheat arrives with 0.9. This is a big one for multiplayer and it should help a lot. We'll keep a close eye on it after release and keep improving it.
A New Room in the Lobby
The lobby gets its biggest room yet, dedicated to drones and RC cars, with a circuit for each.
For the drone, we teamed up with the team behind TRYP FPV. They helped us add support for FPV radio controllers and gave us a lot of feedback on how our drone flies. They also helped us put together the drone race you'll find in the lobby. If you have a radio controller, plug it in and give it a go.
The RC car got some love too. We reworked its game feel and controls so it's more fun to drive.
New in the Loadout
Crossbow: until now you could only get it at the end of the Village secret. It's now in the loadout, so you can take it on the PvP maps.
TEC-9: the first machine pistol you can run as a secondary weapon.
Fixes and Optimization
As usual, there's a long list of bug fixes all over the game, plus general optimization work. It's something we keep working on in the background, update after update. Full patch notes on release day.
About the Party System
The party system won't be in 0.9.
We know a lot of you were waiting for it, and that this is frustrating to read after it already missed 0.8. We're reworking the whole multiplayer layer of the game so we can bring a proper player grouping system. That same rework is what will let us add a lot more multiplayer features later on, and it touches many other parts of the game.
We hit technical blockers along the way that slowed us down more than we expected. What we have now is quite far along, but we're not confident enough in it to ship it with this version, so we made the call to push it back again.
It's still a huge focus for the tech team. They keep moving on it and are looking at how quickly we can get an experimental version into your hands. We'd rather take the extra time than keep piling technical debt onto something every match depends on.
In the meantime, here's how playing with friends works in 0.9:
- Zombies is a co-op mode for up to 4 players, so you can easily deploy there with your friends.
- Quick Play and Server Browser stay solo queue for now.
- You'll still need to host your own game to play with up to 10 friends.
We'll share news as soon as we have something concrete.
Thanks for sticking with us. See you on November 13.
